The word Kendô is made up of two ideograms:

"Ken" which means sword,

" Dô (Michi)" which means way, way, way.

This is the reason it is often translated

as «the Way of the Sword».

This Japanese fencing took its current form at the end of the 19th century and a few years after the end of the Second World War it became an international discipline.
